The new book entitled “Landscape planning: essence and application” of the academician Ramiz Mammadov, director of the Institute of Geography named after acad. H.A. Aliyev, has been presented on 7 of June.

Mammadov spoke about the importance and application of landscape planning, stressing that sustainable development is accepted as an obligatory concept within the international community. The protection of the nature and environment, like the economy, is seen as an important goal.

Therefore, in many countries, the search for solutions for sustainable territorial development through scientific research is considered to be a major issue of policy and management.

The academician noted that Azerbaijan has a good legislative base in the field of nature protection, but does not have a mechanism for effective implementation of these laws.

One of these mechanisms, he said, is landscape planning, long used in the European Union.

The author shows how important is the systematic approach to LP in order to protect the biological and physical environment and preserve the soil healthy.
