        Imrani Zaur Tahir oglu was born on September 16, 1977, in Baku, into an intellectual family. In 1998, he graduated with a bachelor’s degree from the Faculty of Geography of Baku State University, and in 2000 he completed his master’s degree at the same university.

  1. Imrani was awarded the academic degree of Candidate of Geographical Sciences (PhD equivalent) in 2009 and Doctor of Geographical Sciences in 2025. In 2015, he received the academic title of Associate Professor.
  2. Imrani began his professional career in 2000–2002 in the Armed Forces of the Republic of Azerbaijan. From 2002 to 2010, he worked as a Junior Researcher and Senior Researcher at the Institute of Geography named after Academician Hasan Aliyev of the former Azerbaijan National Academy of Sciences (ANAS). In 2011–2013, he worked at the Main Department for Emergency Warning of the Ministry of Emergency Situations of the Republic of Azerbaijan. From 2013 to 2022, he continued his activity at the Institute of Geography named after Academician Hasan Aliyev as a Senior Researcher, Leading Researcher, Head of Department, and Executive Director.

Since 2022, following the transfer of the Institute of Geography named after Academician Hasan Aliyev to the subordination of the Ministry of Science and Education of the Republic of Azerbaijan, Z. Imrani has been appointed as Deputy Director and Acting Director of the Institute.

  1. Imrani is a well-known scientist whose research focuses mainly on key areas of economic and social geography, including industry, agriculture, transport, ecology, social infrastructure, tourism, investment policy, modeling of sustainable development, and the economic-geographical assessment of natural disasters.
  2. Imrani is the author of more than 160 scientific works, including 3 monographs, 2 textbooks, 2 teaching manuals, 2 atlases, and 4 bachelor’s and master’s academic programs. Sixty-five of his scientific works have been published abroad. His publications are cited in prestigious international journals indexed in major scientometric databases (12 articles indexed in the Web of Science platform and 10 articles indexed in the SCOPUS platform). He has delivered presentations at nearly 46 international conferences, symposiums, and congresses.

  1. Imrani is a member of the Azerbaijan Geographical Society, the Uzbekistan Geographical Society, and the Georgian Geographical Society. He has also served for many years as the Scientific Secretary of Dissertation Council ED1.23 operating under the Institute of Geography and as a member of the Expert Council on Earth Sciences of the Supreme Attestation Commission under the President of the Republic of Azerbaijan. He is the Editor-in-Chief of the journal Geography and Natural Resources. In addition, he is a member of the Scientific Council authorized to award PhD and Doctor of Sciences (DSc) degrees in Geography under the Supreme Attestation Commission of the Ministry of Higher Education, Science and Innovations of the Republic of Uzbekistan.

   In 2023, his article entitled “Economic-Geographical Model of Sustainable Development in Manufacturing and Education” (DOI: 10.18775/ijied.1849-7551-7020.2015.91.2004) was included in the list of the Top 25 most-read scientific research articles of the year in European Union countries. In 2024, he became a winner in the “Scientific Achievement” nomination of the national “Crystal Compass” competition organized by the Russian Geographical Society, among more than 600 participants from 14 countries, and was awarded the Finalist Diploma.
