Main activity directions: | Basic priority of the department investigation direction is learning the development history of the Geographical Science in Azerbaijan, at the same time study and systematize of geographical sciences, national historical culture, analysis of change of national geographical location of Azerbaijan, which was noticed in sciences and travelers plays. Study of scientific achievements of famous scientists on certain sectors and periods in the formation of scientific and theoretical and methodological point of view and evolution of the geographical science in Azerbaijan. |
Main scientific achievements: | The reports on dynamic of complex researches in geographical science were prepared. Since 1981, the geographical conditions of Azerbaijan, structural-territorial differentiation, dynamics of national-geographical location were studied by stages and tendency of their changes were systematized according to periods. It has been determined that in development and formation of geographical thought in Azerbaijan the Russian scientists played a great role. The appearance of own scientific potential of scientists-geographers beginning since 50s of the past century in Azerbaijan gave a powerful impetus for solving the national geographical, regional problems. Fund of Azerbaijani toponyms has been created and an encyclopedic dictionary was compiled. Geographical terms of Azerbaijan were studied. The toponymies of the Major Caucasus and Absheron have been investigated. Toponymic maps of separate regions were compiled on the basis of toponymic researches. Works are conducted on compiling toponymic dictionaries and maps and enriching toponymic Fund of our republic. The toponymy of the Republic is studied by regions. We participate in the Toponymic Commission of Milli Majlis of the Azerbaijan Republic in connection with the correct spelling and change of geographical names. |
