The General Director of the Institute of Geography named after academician H. Aliyev of the Ministry of Science and Education of the Republic of Azerbaijan, State Prize laureate, Doctor of Geographical Sciences Zakir Eminov was awarded the academic title of professor.

Eminov, who graduated with honors from Baku State University in 1991, was sent to the Institute of Geography of ANAS. The graduate, who started working here as a chief laboratory assistant, rose to the position of general director.

A well-known scientist in the field of demography, he studies the socio-demographic situation of the population in the Republic of Azerbaijan and other countries with economies in transition, the use of labor resources, the development of human settlements, economic reforms and their impact on these processes. He is the author of more than 100 scientific articles and dissertations on economic and socio-demographic problems of population settlement in Azerbaijan.

His scientific works have been published in the USA, Great Britain, Russian Federation, Ukraine, Uzbekistan, Kazakhstan, Bulgaria, Romania and other countries. In 2012, the scientist defended his doctoral dissertation on the topic “Demographic problems in the formation of labor resources in Azerbaijan.”

N. Eminov is the author of more than 100 scientific articles and 15 books. He was directly involved in the preparation of the “National Atlas of the Republic of Azerbaijan” and is the author of 17 maps and one of the compilers of economic, social and demographic maps of the republic. He did a great job of promoting geography among a wide readership and prepared volumes of books and textbooks. He is also co-author of a two-volume geographical encyclopedia.

Eminov is one of the scientists awarded the State Prize for the three-volume “Geography of the Republic of Azerbaijan” in 2015. He is the supervisor of 5 candidate dissertations and 5 doctoral students. At the moment, 6 people have defended their PhD theses in geography under his leadership.
