Head of the Department of Landscape Research and Landscape Planning of the Institute of Geography named after acad. H.A. Aliyev of ANAS, Ph.D. Mirnukh Ismayilov and Researcher Emil Jabrayilov took part in an event organized by the Caucasus Regional Environmental Center in Chabran District on December 17-19 within the framework of "Supporting the Platform for Intergovernmental Scientific Approaches to Biodiversity and Ecosystem Services through Ecosystem Assessment at the State level."
The meeting dedicated to the assessment of ecosystems in Azerbaijan was attended by representatives of the Ministry of Ecology and Natural Resources, Ministry of Agriculture, State Committee on Statistics of the Republic of Azerbaijan, Melioration and Water Management of Azerbaijan OJSC, Baku State University, as well as specialized scientific institutes of ANAS.
The report of the Working Group on Forest Ecosystems was heard and discussed at the event, and discussions were held with the groups to identify scenarios and trends to fill the gaps.
Speaking about this, Mirnukh Ismayilov emphasized the need to define the concept of forest in the reports, noting that it is more expedient to conduct assessments by natural-geographical
regions and considered it necessary to strengthen special protection in areas where the process of natural reforestation is underway.
