Mirnukh Ismailov, head of the department of the Institute of Geography of ANAS, PhD in Geography, was a guest of the "Main Release" program of Azerbaijan Television.
In the program "Environmental Threat to the Environment in the Occupied Territories," the geographer spoke about the ruthless exploitation of Azerbaijan's natural resources by Armenia, the threat posed by the Metsamor nuclear power plant, built in 1976, as well as environmental damage. He commented on issues such as water pollution, tree cutting and green burning. Ismayilov said that the misuse and abuse of natural resources will have serious consequences. He stressed that when surveying the area using various programs and satellite images, depletion of forests and a reduction in rivers flowing into the Araz were observed. One of the reasons for the decrease in water in the Kura River is the processes taking place in the Araz River, gross interference with the river. Vegetation changes ultimately lead to the drying up of springs and groundwater. Felling of very valuable trees, which are about a thousand years old, lead to thinning of forests and a change in their composition. He stressed that these problems are often posed to the relevant international organizations.
