23 employees of the Institute of Geography participated in the International Mountain Forum from 30th october to 1st November in Istanbul by Geneva Mountain University, Geneva Agency for Development and Cooperation (SDC) with the support of the U N Environment Program.
The purpose of the “Second Caucasus Mountain Forum- the study of the Caucasus: the key to sustainable regional development” is to find ways for sustainable development in the countries of the Caucasus region that currently face serious problems in the field of economy, environment and living standarts, discuss and solve existing problems.
The event was attended by 178 influential scientists and researchers from Azerbaijan, Georgia, Armenia, Russia, Iran, Turkey, Ukraine, Austria, Romania, Switzerland and Germany.
Representatives of Azerbaijan (36 people) reported on their research on sustainable development of mountain regions for 3 days, during 20 thematic sessions and 3 plenary sessions.
Director of the IG, acad. R.Mammadov, made a speech at the 3rd thematic session on the theme “Water Resources”.
D.Sc. Z.Eminov made a report on the theme “Cities of Azerbaijan located in the mountainous region and their geographical and demographic development”, PhD R. Kerimov on the “Sustainable demographic development of the Azerbaijani regions”, N.Pashayev “The study of the impact on territorial planning of mudflows in Sheki region using the remote sensing method”. PhD on geography N.Jafarova made a presentation “The role of tourism organizations in the socio-economic development of residential areas in the mountainous regions of Azerbaijan”, M. Ismayilov spoke about “Protected areas of Azerbaijan: landscape and ecological diversity and sustainability”.
