A seminar for schoolchildren was held 2017-11-01 10:42:00 / IMPORTANT EVENTS

October 30, the Council of Young Scientists and Specialists of the Institute of Geography named after acad. H.Aliyev of ANAS, held a meeting-workshop for teachers and pupils of the secondary school № 75 of Sabunchi district, named after Haver Veliyev.

It was a regular event under the motto “We will know Azerbaijan”. The purpose of such meeting is to give more extensive and comprehensive information about Azerbaijan, to arouse the interest of young people for geographic science and help them to choose their future profession.

In the beginning, they got acquainted with the section of the Institute of Geography at an exhibition reflecting the activities of scientific research institutes of ANAS.

Chairwoman of the Council of YSS, Samira Alekperova, told schoolchildren about the history of the Institute, areas of its research, famous scientists and achievements.

Then they visited the department of “Geographic Information and Cartography”, where the employees of the department explained to them how they compiled and printed digital maps using GIS technologies.

The workshop has continued in the conference hall of the institute. Samira Alekperova told about the significance of this meeting:” One of the main goals of the workshop is to educate the younger generation in the spirit of respect and love for the homeland and moral values of the people as a priority aspect of the state policy on youth implemented in Azerbaijan.

She also noted that these classes cover such important themes as acquaintance with the wonders of the unique nature of Azerbaijan, a comprehensive analysis of information on research conducted with the help of modern technologies, showing videos about historical and cultural monuments and photographs made by scientists of the Institute in different periods.

A senior researcher at the department of Demography and Geography of the Population, PhD in geography Etibar Badalov made an extensive presentation “Memory of the Absheron”.

At the end of the event, on behalf of the administration, the scientific secretary of the Institute, Zarnura Hamidova, donated to the school publications of the Institute of Geography.
