On May 11, the National Academy presented a collection of books by a prominent geographer, academician Hasan Aliyev, on the occasion of his 110th anniversary.
This collection, exhibited by the Institute of Geography named after acad. H. Aliyev in the Central Scientific Library, covers 488 books.
The event was attended by the director of the Institute of Geography, as well as scientists-geographers, specialists and students of high and secondary schools.
The acad. R. Mammadov began his speech with thanks to the organizers of the CSB for preparing the presentation of books by Anvar Shikhlinsky and Hasan Aliyev. He noted the importance of such events, reminiscent of invaluable role of scientists in the development of science, and introduces the younger generation to their activities. He told about interesting facts from the life of Hasan Aliyev.
Mammadov told about the creation of the Environment Protection Department at the Institute of Geography, thanks to H. Aliyev, for the first time among the former Soviet republics, and election of H. Aliyev as a corresponding member, being a candidate of science. But subsequently he successfully defended his doctoral dissertation in Moscow.
He stressed that the establishment of a marine observatory operated for 30 years in the Caspian Sea is also an undeniable merit of Hasan Aliyev.
Many scientists shared their memories of his role in the formation of them and their colleagues as scientists. They spoke about the merits of H. Aliyev in the name of our country.
