Mirnukh Ismailov, head of the department of landscape science and landscape planning at the Institute of Geography named after Academician H. Aliyev of the Ministry of Science and Education of the Republic of Azerbaijan, Doctor of Philosophy in Geography, answered questions from the AzTV channel about the activation of landslide zones.
According to the head of the department, who expressed his opinion on the recent landslide incident in the village of Zykh, Surakhani district, the slope of the Baku terrain towards the sea leads to the emergence of landslide zones. According to scientists, there are about 20 large landslide zones in the city. It was noted that the territory between Yeni Gunashli and Old Gunashli, the southern slopes of the Akhmedli plateau, the Masazir region, and the Bayil slope are among the zones of active man-made landslides. The main reason is the wrong approach to the slopes.
The landscape specialist considers it necessary to build retaining walls in the form of terraces to prevent possible landslides.
