Ph.D., Professor Rza Makhmudov, the Head of the Department "Hydrology of Lands and Water Resources" of the Institute of Geography named after Academician H.A. Aliyev of ANAS, published the paper “Regional climatic changes in Azerbaijan and its impact on hydro meteorological conditions” (Regional climatic changes in Azerbaijan and their influence on river regimes) which received a DOI passport in the prestigious international scientific journal of Slovenia (ISSN 5782-5319).
Based on real hydrometeorological observations, the article examines the trends in regional climate change in Azerbaijan, the features of temperature and precipitation in different regions, at different time intervals, and provides maps.
The article discusses the impact of regional climate change on water resources and river regimes, changes in river regimes in the country, reduction in annual river flow, duration of floods and turbulent periods and maximum water consumption, as well as an increase in winter lowland flow.
Although the average temperature in the country is +1.10 C above normal, the maximum temperature increase is observed at an altitude of >1000 m. In 2018, which is considered the warmest year in the world, the temperature increase in Azerbaijan was +1.80 C, at an altitude of > 1000 m +2.30 C.
