At the Scientific Seminar of the Institute of Geography named after Academician H.A. Aliyev of ANAS hosted the presentation of the book by Yasin Azerturk (Kerimov) “Armenization of the names of settlements in the historical territories of Azerbaijan”.
In his speech, the Director General of the Institute, Doctor of Geography Zakir Eminov, emphasized the importance of the book, which revealed important documents from Russian archives and proved the renaming and armenization of the historical territories of Azerbaijan (now Armenia). He said that more than 60 decrees and other documents of the Presidium of the Supreme Council of the Armenian SSR, received by Y. Azerturk, testify that during 1946-1968, under various pretexts, more than 300 surnames of Turkic origin were changed to Armenian names.
Under various pretexts the Armenians, armenianized the ancient Turkic names in order to cover up the traces of history.
The first pages of the book mention the fact that once (in 1521) Azerbaijan had a territory of 3,500,000 km2, which belonged to the state of the Safavids, and a chronicle of the events that led to the occupation and disintegration of its vast territory from time to time by neighboring states. Finally, a list of renamed settlements is given, indicating their real names and dates, as well as renamed settlements in Armenia after the expulsion of all Azerbaijanis from their historical territories in 1988-1991.
The heads of the departments, Ph.D. Shamil Azizov, Habil Hagverdiyev and Ismail Guliyev shared their opinion about the book, considered important to translate it into English, as well as the role of the media in bringing the book to the general public.
