The textbook, intended for grades 6-11, was recommended and approved by the decision of the Academic Council of the Institute of Education of the Republic of Azerbaijan and the Institute of Geography named after academician H.A. Aliyev of ANAS. The preparation of the special content of the Atlas, whose chief editor was the late academician Ramiz Mammadov, belongs to the director general of the Institute of Geography, Doctor of Geographical Sciences Zakir Eminov and others.

The textbook consists of 4 parts with sections: geographical space, nature, society and the Republic of Azerbaijan. The atlas, prepared on the basis of a new program on the subject of geography, includes maps added on the basis of a new division of the economic regions of Azerbaijan.
