On October 10, a meeting took place of the director of the Institute of Geography named after acad. H.Aliyev of ANAS, president of the Azerbaijan Geographic Society, Dr of technical sciences, academician Ramiz Mammadov with students of the department of Geography at History and Geography faculty of ASPU.
The meeting was also attended by deputy director for science of the Institute of Geography, PhD in geography, assoc. prof. Maharram Hasanov and the head of the Department of Education of the Institute, PhD in geography, assoc. prof. Museib Yunusov.
The dean of the faculty, PhD in geography, assoc. prof.Shahin Panahov, welcomed the guests with a speech. Then the university studentsgave detailed information about the life and work of acad. Ramiz Mammadov.
Then R.Mammadov spoke about the activities of the AGS and events held in different years. He noted that the Society was one of the first non-governmental organizations not only in Azerbaijan, but also in the former USSR, and drew attention to the great role of this Society in studing the geographical conditions and natural resources of our republic. The academician emphasized the fact that the ASPU branch is the largest of the AGS branches.
He told about the work being carried out at the Institute of Geography and important publications, such as the three-volume Geography of the republic of Azerbaijan, which received the State Prize of the Republic of Azerbaijan in the field of science, in 2016. According to him, the high appreciation by the Head of State of the work of geographers can be considered the greatest succes of geographical science.
Academician Ramis Mammadov noted “perhaps,there are the great geographers of the future among today’s students sitting in this audience”. He wished all the students succes in their studies. He also answered the questions of the meeting participants.
At the end of the meeting, dean Shahin Panahov, deputy dean, PhD on agrarian sciences, assoc. Prof. Matanat Askerova and head of the chair, D. of geography Mahammad Abduyev, thanked acad. Ramiz Mammadov and other guests.
They noted that this meeting, held in a warm atmosphere, will leave an indelible mark in the memory of students.
