On June 22, a regular meeting of the Council of Young Scientists and Specialists of the Institute of Geography named acad. H.A. Aliyev of ANAS was held on the theme “What is Wikipedia and the place of geography in Wikipedia”. At the event, in addition to young scientists and specialists, employees involved in Wikipedia participated.

Chairman of the CYSS, PhD in geography Samira Alekperova, spoke about the importance of Wikipedia in modern society, as a huge information base, containing various information about our country. She stressed the need to constantly expand and enrich the database, which is a tool for formation of the worldview of young generation.

Then the employee of the IG and head of wiki team Aida Aslanova made a presentation on this issue. She stressed the role of geography in Wikipedia, spoke about 15 Wikimedia projects, the history of Wikipedia, its founders and principles, the Wikipedia foundation, its users and their activities. She raised the issue of posting articles in Wikipedia and informed about the activities of 17 young employees of the Institute of Geography in this field.

Speaking about further work on this portal, Aida Aslanova noted that within the framework of Wikipedia project “Thematic Month” it is planned to hold a month dedicated to Geography. This is due to the large amount of material in this field. Aida Aslanova noted the success of the members of wiki group, which were training in the Central Library of ANAS and received certificates. Speaking about the successes of the Azerbaijan Wikipedia, she also reported that since 1^st of June, Azerbaijan has risen one step higher, from 56 to 55.
