
The international scientific conference “The Caspian Basin: Ecogeographical Problems and Sustainable Development,” dedicated to the 75th anniversary of the birth of the distinguished soil scientist, corresponding member of ANAS, Professor Amin Ismayilov, and organized by the Institute of Geography of the Ministry of Science and Education of the Republic of Azerbaijan, has successfully concluded its work.
On the first day of the conference, a plenary session was held with the participation of representatives of the scientific and educational community, scholars, and researchers from higher education institutions. The speakers highlighted the significance of the conference, the relevance of studying the ecogeographical problems of the Caspian Basin, as well as Professor Amin Ismayilov’s contributions to the development of geographical and soil sciences in Azerbaijan.
A total of 123 papers were submitted to the conference, of which 87 were included in the conference program. In addition to Azerbaijani scholars, researchers from Turkey, Georgia, Kazakhstan, Uzbekistan, and China also presented their reports.
During the section sessions organized within the framework of the conference, presentations were delivered on the physical and geographical characteristics of the Caspian Basin, climate change and environmental risks, biodiversity conservation, soil resources, the use of natural resources, environmental security, sustainable development, and regional cooperation.
The first panel session was chaired by Turana Huseynova, Research Associate at the Laboratory of Tourism and Recreation Geography, while the second panel session was led by Sərxan Jafarov, Head of the Strategic Development, Monitoring and Evaluation Sector. Extensive scientific discussions were held on the presented reports, participants’ questions were answered, and views were exchanged on various research directions.
On the second day of the conference, panel sessions were held online, featuring presentations by local and international researchers. Current scientific findings were presented on the ecological condition of the Caspian Basin, the impacts of climate change, biodiversity conservation, the management of land and water resources, and issues related to sustainable development.
The two-day international scientific conference served as an important platform for discussing the existing problems of the Caspian Basin from a scientific perspective, presenting new research findings, and expanding international scientific cooperation. At the conclusion of the event, participants noted the high level of organization of the conference and emphasized the importance of continuing joint scientific activities and strengthening future cooperation.
