
The next meeting of the Scientific Council of the Institute of Geography of the Ministry of Science and Education of the Republic of Azerbaijan was held. The meeting took place under the chairmanship of Acting Director, Doctor of Geographical Sciences, Associate Professor Zaur Imrani.
At the beginning of the meeting, Zaur Imrani congratulated a well-known scientist in the field of agricultural sciences, Doctor of Agricultural Sciences, Professor, Corresponding Member of ANAS Amin Ismayilov on the occasion of his 75th birthday on behalf of the institute’s staff. He highly appreciated the scientist’s contributions to the development of agricultural science in the country and wished him success in his future scientific activities.
Then, in accordance with the agenda, a number of scientific and organizational issues were discussed. Doctor of Geographical Sciences, Professor Rza Mahmudov delivered a speech on the book titled “Hydrographic Features of the Territory of Azerbaijan,” providing information about its main scientific results and presenting a document confirming that the book had passed a plagiarism check.
After that, Doctor of Philosophy in Geography Shamil Azizov presented the book “The Phenomenon of the Map in Geographic Cartography. Selected Works” and spoke about the theoretical and methodological foundations of maps.
At the meeting, Doctor of Philosophy in Geography, Associate Professor Saida Zeynalova and Doctor of Geographical Sciences, Associate Professor Mirnuh Ismayilov delivered a report on the topic “Urbanization and Transformation of Natural Landscapes in the Baku Agglomeration.” The report was presented within the framework of the state program “Urban Planning and Architecture,” and it provided a detailed analysis of existing environmental problems in the coastal areas of the Baku agglomeration.
PhD in Physics Elman Yusifov delivered a report titled “Flora and Endemism of the High-Mountain Landscapes of the Greater Caucasus in the Context of Climate Change,” highlighting the impact of climate change on flora diversity, the condition of endemic species, and the shrinking habitats of rare plants. He particularly emphasized the importance of protecting high-mountain ecosystems.
The meeting also reviewed the documents of Samira Abushova, a senior researcher at the “Geomorphology and Paleogeography” laboratory and Doctor of Philosophy in Geography, for the conferment of the academic title of Associate Professor. Following discussions, a secret ballot was held, in which 24 out of 25 members voted in favor and 1 voted against.
Based on the voting results, a decision was made to submit Samira Abushova’s documents to the Higher Attestation Commission for the conferment of the academic title of Associate Professor.
