Prominent politician and statesman, Doctor of Historical Sciences Hasan Hasanov, participated in the event at the invitation of the IG.
A moment of silence was observed in memory of the great leader Heydar Aliyev.
Acting Director of the Institute, PhD and Associate Professor Zaur Imrani, delivered a speech, noting that December 12 is the day we honor the memory of a figure who played a pivotal role in the fate of Azerbaijanis. Every year, our people celebrate Heydar Aliyev's Memorial Day with great respect and love for the nation. He dedicated his life to the well-being of the people and the development of our state. Many of our current successes in science, culture, and economics are linked to his name. The presence of hundreds of thousands of people, as well as a number of heads of state and government officials, at Heydar Aliyev's funeral was a testament to his greatness and influence.
Heydar Aliyev's legacy is a culture of statehood, service to the Motherland, and the protection of national interests. As he himself said, "Azerbaijan is my heart." We live and work with this idea and e try to be an example for future generations.
At the end of his speech, the head of the Institute gave the floor to Hasan Hasanov, a former Minister of Foreign Affairs, a diplomat and historian who worked with Heydar Aliyev and played an important role in the formation of the Azerbaijani state.
Expressing gratitude to the Institute's leadership for the invitation, H. Hasanov spoke about his memories of Heydar Aliyev, his historical merits to the Azerbaijani state and people, as well as his work in developing science, culture, and the army.
He noted that backwardness in the agricultural sector was eliminated under Heydar Aliyev's leadership, and significant changes occurred as a result of the reforms.
It was noted that Heydar Aliyev attached particular importance to the teaching of the Azerbaijani language and took important steps to improve the social status of teachers and large rural families.
The Great Leader was uncompromising, proactive, and demanding in the face of shortcomings and omissions. At the same time, despite the difficulties, he was able to restore the name of Nariman Narimanov, who during the Soviet period took important steps to protect the state and national rights of Azerbaijan not only as a writer and playwright, but also as a socio-political and public figure.
At the end of his speech, after answering questions, the former minister presented the two-volume "Historical Geographical Atlas of Azerbaijan," of which he is the author, to the Institute of Geography. A short documentary about the state policies of National Leader Heydar Aliyev was then shown. Later, the event participants visited the grave of the Great Leader and laid flowers at his monument.
