Participants observed a moment of silence in memory of our valiant sons and daughters who gave their lives for Azerbaijan's independence.
Opening the event with an introductory speech, Acting Director General of the Institute, PhD in Geography, Associate Professor Zaur Imrani noted that the historical and political conditions that developed at the end of the last century created an opportunity for the Azerbaijani people to restore their state independence. With the adoption of the Constitutional Act "On the State Independence of the Republic of Azerbaijan" in 1991, our country embarked on the path of sovereign development. This process, leading to independence, began on August 30, 1991, at an extraordinary session of the Supreme Council of the Republic of Azerbaijan, convened at the people's request, with the adoption of the Declaration "On the Restoration of the State Independence of the Republic of Azerbaijan." On October 18 of that year, the unanimous adoption of the Constitutional Act at a session of the Supreme Council officially restored Azerbaijan's independence.
Then, Associate Professor Mubariz Agalarli, a leading researcher at the Department of History of the Republic of Azerbaijan at the Institute of History and Ethnology of the National Academy of Sciences (ANAS), delivered a report on "The Political and Legal Foundations of the Restoration of Independence of the Republic of Azerbaijan." The report provided a detailed analysis of the historical processes leading to Azerbaijan's state independence, the significance of the Constitutional Act "On the State Independence of the Republic of Azerbaijan," adopted in 1991, and the role of this document in the country's political and legal development. It was noted that this act, by laying the legal foundation for Azerbaijani statehood, paved the way for the recognition of our country as an independent entity in the international community.
Kamran Ramazanli, Chairman of the Institute's Trade Union, delivered a speech and emphasized the national and political significance of the restoration of state independence, noting that this process was accomplished by the will of the people.
