At the meeting, chaired by the Director General of the Institute of Geography named after Academician G.Aliyev of the Ministry of Education of the Republic of Azerbaijan, Professor Zakir Eminov, the 85th anniversary of the birth of Shahvalad Khalilov, a prominent geographer, scientist, and corresponding member of ANAS, was celebrated.

Head of the Department of Hydrology and Water Resources, Professor Rza Mahmudov, made a report on the life and work of the famous hydrologist. It was reported that Shahvalad Khalilov was a major scientist in the field of geography, in particular, hydrology, as well as a researcher, propagandist, and an experienced scientist-organizer.

The main area of his scientific research is the study of large water bodies of the country, their siltation and coastal dynamics, water management measures, including the impact of water bodies on the environment, their protection and effective use. In this area, the scientist has published 5 monographs, more than 100 articles, 12 scientific works in foreign countries.

For 20 years, Sh. Khalilov was the host of the program "Travel" on state television, worked as deputy director for scientific work at the Institute of Geography and vice-rector of BSU, at the same time he was the secretary of the primary party organization of ANAS, and for a long time was a deputy of the Baku City Council.

Sh. Khalilov was awarded the jubilee medal "For selfless labor".
