Members of the Small Academy of the Azerbaijani and Russian department of school No. 8 of the Nasimi district - students of grades VIII-X visited the Institute of Geography named after Academician H.Aliyev of the Ministry of Science and Education of the Republic of Azerbaijan.

The event was dedicated to the 29th session of the Conference of the Parties to the UN Framework Convention on Climate Change - COP29, which will be held in Azerbaijan.

Yashar Seyidaliev, the initiator of the meeting, the winner of the III grant competition for development and innovation in education, and also a geography teacher who made win 5 medals for our country at the International Geography Competition, explained the purpose of the visit and gave brief information about the successes of his students.

Hasan Nabiyev, leading researcher of the Department of Climate and Agroclimatology, PhD in geographical sciences, associate professor Hasan Nabiyev, gave extensive information to schoolchildren about climate change and anomalies in the world and in Azerbaijan, about problems of climate pollution, drought and desertification, the role of modern technologies in climate research, meteorological weapons, provision of synoptic forecasts, etc.

The head of the department of "Geomorphology of the coast and bottom of the Caspian Sea", Doctor of Geographical Sciences, Professor Amir Aliyev gave interesting information about the causes and forecasts of fluctuations in the level of the Caspian Sea. The scientist spoke about the unique characteristics of the Caspian Sea, seismic and tectonic processes occurring in the Caspian, as well as global climate change and anthropogenic impact affecting the variability of the level, and noted that the level of the Caspian Sea will continue to decrease until 2050 and will increase in the next 200 years.

GIS specialist Nazim Garayli talked on the topic of “Trends and Solutions in Modern Geography.” The researcher gave students extensive information on the development of geography, the application, role, importance and advantages of artificial intelligence in geography, and the benefits of using them in making weather forecasts.

 He said that artificial intelligence plays a key role in air quality mapping, helping to improve urban planning, as well as managing transport systems and waste management processes. At the end of the event, Y. Seyidaliev and school teacher Safura Ibrahimli expressed deep gratitude to the scientists, management and staff of the institute for always being ready to support students.
