The last places visited by students of the Justus Liebigs University of Germany, who interned at the Institute of Geography named after Academician G. Aliyev of the Ministry of Education of the Republic of Azerbaijan, were the Mud Volcanoes State Nature Reserve, the Gobustan National Historical Reserve and Lake Buyukshor.
The students visited these reserves, which have potential for creating an international geopark, accompanied by junior research fellow of the Institute of Geography Beymkhanym Huseynova and research fellow Nijat Imamverdiyev. Here they got acquainted with the largest volcano in Azerbaijan – the mud volcano Toragay, as well as active small mud volcanoes located on the territory of the reserve.
The reserve's tour guide told the students in detail about the history, composition of mud volcanoes and how they can be used for medical tourism. In the museum located on the territory of the reserve, students got acquainted with the skeletons of animal species brought to Azerbaijan from different countries of the world, as well as the oldest rhinoceros skeleton found in Azerbaijan, and learned about ancient wall paintings and many interesting historical samples in the "Gobustan National Historical and Artistic Reserve".
Foreign guests who visited Lake Boyukshor, the largest among the Absheron lakes and located in the center of the Absheron Peninsula, were provided with extensive information about the lake, its ecological state, and the work done in the field of restoration and protection.
