The Institute of Geography named after academician Hasan Aliyev of the Ministry of Science and Education hosted a presentation of the book “Ilham Aliyev’s Policy in Georgia: in the context of the energy strategy”, dedicated to the 100th anniversary of the birth of national leader Heydar Aliyev.
The event was attended by representatives of various public associations and societies, scientists, guests from Georgia and employees of the institute.
Authors: senior researcher at the institute, Ph.D. Natavan Jafarova and researcher Kamran Ramazanli. The book analyzed the Georgian policies of President Ilham Aliyev. Among other things, they tried to look at this policy from the point of view of the current landscape of regional and global geopolitics, and also examined the views of the Georgian leadership on cooperation between two neighboring friendly countries.
General Director of the Institute of Geography, Doctor of Geography Zakir Eminov spoke about the role and importance of the oil and gas industry in the economy of Azerbaijan. He said that only at the end of the 20th century, after gaining independence, did the Azerbaijani people get the opportunity to use national resources in accordance with the interests of their people. Under his leadership, the oil strategy of Azerbaijan was developed. When developing this strategy, the interests of both current and future generations were taken into account as the main condition. This principle was expressed in the words of Heydar Aliyev: “Oil is the greatest wealth of Azerbaijan. It belongs to the people, not only to the present, but also to future generations.”
As part of Azerbaijan’s oil strategy, established in 1994 by the “Contract of the Century,” 27 oil agreements were signed with foreign oil companies. The partners of the Azerbaijani government under these agreements are 43 companies representing 21 countries of the world. The “Contract of the Century” once again recognized Azerbaijan to the whole world as an oil country. Today, Georgia is home to a huge oil terminal owned by the State Oil Company of the Republic of Azerbaijan. Thus, it is confirmed that Azerbaijan's new oil strategy represents a favorable development program bringing national, regional and global benefits.
At the end of his speech, the Director General thanked the authors and said that the presented book is a new contribution to the strengthening and expansion of Azerbaijani-Georgian relations.
Executive Director of the Institute, Dr. Zaur Imrani, Chairman of the Trade Union, Dr. Habil Hagverdiyev, head of department, professor Rza Mahmudov, head of department of BSU Saleh Nagiyev, head of department of the Institute of Oriental Studies Mamedali Babashli, Ph.D. Sharaf Jalilli, editor-in-chief of Birlik magazine Ilgar Ilkin and others spoke and shared their thoughts on the recently published book.
At the end of the event, the authors spoke about the merits of the book and expressed gratitude to those who contributed to the creation of the publication and the participants of the event.
