
On October 8, 2026, the next event of the Women's Council was held at the Institute of Geography of the Ministry of Science and Education of the Republic of Azerbaijan, dedicated to October 11 – the International Day of the Girl.
The event was opened by Zaur Imrani, Acting Director of the Institute of Geography, Doctor of Geographical Sciences and Associate Professor, who welcomed the participants and spoke about the significance of the International Day of the Girl. He then gave the floor to Solmaz Rzayeva, PhD in Geography and Chair of the Women's Council of the Institute of Geography.
In her speech, Solmaz Rzayeva noted that, by a resolution adopted by the United Nations General Assembly on December 19, 2011, October 11 was declared the International Day of the Girl. The day was first observed in 2012. Its main purpose is to draw attention to the protection of girls' rights, the promotion of gender equality, and the challenges faced by girls experiencing discrimination and neglect.
The importance of protecting girls' right to education, supporting their active participation in society, and ensuring equal opportunities was emphasized during the event. Particular attention was drawn to the negative impact of early marriage on girls' education, future prospects, and economic independence.
The event also featured speeches by Hamdulla Aliyev, Head of the Administrative Department; Vafa Mahmudova, Doctor of Historical Sciences, Associate Professor, and Chair of the Women's Council of the Institute of Archaeology and Anthropology; Turana Huseynova, PhD in Geography; Samira Abushova, PhD in Geography and Associate Professor; Taybas Nasirоva, PhD in Agricultural Sciences; Shams Imrani; and Mahbuba Fatullayeva.
The speakers highlighted the importance of the International Day of the Girl in protecting girls' rights, promoting gender equality, and addressing the social challenges they face. They emphasized the need to create favorable conditions for girls to receive quality education, realize their potential, and develop as equal members of society.
The event continued with an exchange of views on the topic.
