
A roundtable dedicated to sustainable development and green energy was held at Sumgait State University. The event, organized in an academic and practical discussion format, brought together representatives of scientific and higher education institutions, government agencies, as well as the energy and industrial sectors.
The Institute of Geography of the Ministry of Science and Education of the Republic of Azerbaijan was represented by a broad delegation. The Institute’s Director, Doctor of Geographical Sciences, Associate Professor Zaur Imrani, as well as members of the Institute, participated in the roundtable.
During the panel discussions, Associate Professor Zaur Imrani addressed the role of geographical science in sustainable development and green transformation processes, the efficient use of natural resources, comprehensive scientific assessment of territories, and environmental security. The importance of scientific approaches in addressing contemporary environmental challenges and strengthening cooperation among scientific, educational, governmental, and industrial institutions was emphasized.
Within the framework of the roundtable, extensive discussions were held on Azerbaijan’s prospects for transitioning to green energy, the efficient use of renewable energy sources, environmental security, energy and resource efficiency, waste management and recycling, the application of digital technologies in green transformation, as well as the “Green Campus” approach.
Employees of the Institute of Geography also took part in the discussions and exchanged views on sustainable development, environmental protection, the efficient use of natural resources, and green transformation.
Representatives of various research and higher education institutions, government agencies, as well as the energy and industrial sectors participated in the event alongside the Institute of Geography.
The Institute of Geography places particular emphasis on expanding scientific research in the fields of sustainable development, climate change, efficient use of natural resources, environmental security, and green transformation, as well as on the practical application of scientific findings and strengthening cooperation among science, education, and industry.
