On September 16, 2026, the next meeting of the Scientific Council of the Institute of Geography of the Ministry of Science and Education of the Republic of Azerbaijan was held. The meeting was chaired by Zaur Imrani, Acting Director of the Institute, Doctor of Geographical Sciences, Associate Professor. The issues included in the agenda of the Scientific Council were discussed.

First, Sevil Guliyeva, Senior Researcher at the Laboratory of Landscape Science and Nature Management, presented a report on the results of the laboratory’s initial field studies. It was noted that a group of laboratory staff conducted an expedition to Tovuz District on July 20–24, 2026, in accordance with the research topic “Ecogeochemical Characteristics of Geosystems on the Northeastern Slope of the Lesser Caucasus and the Study of Natural-Anthropogenic Complexes Based on the Basin Principle of Management (2026–2029).”

During the expedition, materials were collected for the preparation of large-scale landscape and landscape-geochemical maps of the Zayam and Asrik river basins, and the landscape-ecological condition of the basin was assessed. Soil, rock and plant samples were also collected for a comprehensive analysis of the landscape-geochemical and ecogeochemical conditions of the area.

Later, Afat Jafarova, Head of the Laboratory of Soil Irrigation and Melioration, PhD in Agricultural Sciences, delivered a report on field studies conducted on the topic “Assessment of the Meliorative Condition of the Soils of the Shirvan Plain.” Information was provided on the results obtained during the studies and the prospects for further research.

The members of the Scientific Council discussed the reports and noted the scientific significance of the field studies, as well as the importance of their results for future scientific research and practical applications.

The meeting also included a presentation by Museyib Yunusov, Head of the Scientific Personnel Training Sector, PhD in Jurisprudence, on the list of doctoral students admitted to doctoral studies in 2026. The research topics of the doctoral students and their academic supervisors were discussed.

Following the discussions, it was decided to make a number of amendments to the titles of the research topics and submit them to the Coordination Council for consideration and approval by the Scientific Council.The meeting concluded with the discussion of other agenda items and the adoption of relevant decisions.
