
On 7–11 September 2026, a field expedition was conducted to comprehensively study the economic and geographical potential of the region within the framework of the research project entitled “Assessment of the Geopolitical and Economic-Geographical Potential of the Ganja-Dashkasan Economic Region” (2026–2027) carried out by the “Geopolitics and Economic Geography” Laboratory of the Institute of Geography of the Ministry of Science and Education of the Republic of Azerbaijan.The research expedition was attended by Nəriman Pashayev, Doctor of Geographical Sciences, Associate Professor and Head of the “Geopolitics and Economic Geography” Laboratory (expedition leader), research fellows Zöhrə Mammadova and Dilbər Mammadova, junior research fellow Tünzalə Ismayilova, senior laboratory assistant Abdulla Rzayev, as well as Etibar Badalov, PhD in Geography, Associate Professor and Leading Research Fellow of the “Population Geography and Toponymy” Laboratory, and Sima Aliyeva, PhD in Geography and Senior Research Fellow.
During the expedition, comprehensive field observations were conducted in various areas of Dashkasan, Samukh and Goygol districts, while scientific meetings were held with relevant institutions and industrial enterprises. The researchers collected essential scientific and factual data on the current condition, level of operation and development potential of economic facilities located in the region.
As part of the expedition, physical-geographical and economic observations were carried out in Dashkasan District, and the operations of iron ore and marble quarries were assessed on site. In Goygol District, the researchers visited the “Goygol Wine Plant”, where they obtained information on the production potential of the enterprise. The settlement patterns of the population, toponymic characteristics and the operational status of tourism facilities in the area were also studied.
In Samukh District, a visit was organized to the “Casa Argo” LLC agropark, where discussions were held with the relevant stakeholders and field observations were conducted in the fruit-growing farm. At the “Agroenergy Residential Complex”, the possibilities of using solar energy and the facility’s current technical and operational indicators were discussed with the management. During the final stage of the expedition, the researchers visited the Yenikend Reservoir, where they analyzed the area’s water resources, irrigation network and the condition of the existing fishery.
As a result of the research, a rich database was compiled on the industrial, agricultural and transport geography of the region. Based on the scientific and practical findings, new facilities were identified, their operational dynamics were makes an important contribution to the scientific assessment of the resource potential and sustainable development opportunities of the Ganja-Dashkasan Economic Region.
