A project titled "Raising Awareness on the Efficient Use of Land and Water Resources under Climate Change in the Shirvan-Salyan Economic Region" was implemented with the joint support of the State Support Agency for Non-Governmental Organizations of the Republic of Azerbaijan and BP.

As part of the project, Zaman Mammadov, Head of the Soil Ecology Laboratory at the Geography Institute LLC under the Ministry of Science and Education, PhD in Biology, Associate Professor, and Gulchohra Huseynova, Leading Researcher at the Laboratory of Soil Irrigation and Land Reclamation, PhD in Biology, Associate Professor, participated as trainers and keynote speakers.

    The project aimed to promote the efficient and sustainable use of land and water resources under climate change, enhance farmers’ knowledge and skills, improve land and water resource management, prevent land degradation, and strengthen public awareness of existing environmental challenges.

Within the framework of the project, awareness seminars were organized in the Hajigabul, Shirvan, Neftchala, and Salyan districts of the Shirvan-Salyan Economic Region. The events brought together representatives of local executive authorities, relevant regional institutions, and approximately 25–30 farmers from each district, reaching more than 100 local agricultural producers in total.

    During the seminars, Zaman Mammadov delivered presentations on the efficient use and management of land resources, sustainable agricultural land use, and the main causes of land degradation. Gulchohra Huseynova spoke about the efficient management of water resources, irrigation challenges, reducing water losses, and the importance of protecting water resources in the context of climate change.

     As a result of the project, farmers received practical recommendations on the conservation and efficient use of land and water resources, improved their practical knowledge, and strengthened their capacity to adapt to climate change-related risks. Interactive discussions were also held to address participants' questions and concerns.

    At the conclusion of the project, certificates were awarded to participating farmers in recognition of their active involvement.
