An employee of the Institute of Geography participated in the public discussion on the Garadagh-Kharkhar and Demirli mining projects 2026-06-11 14:00:00 / IMPORTANT EVENTS

  Sevil Guliyeva, Doctor of Geographical Sciences and researcher at the “Landscape Studies and Nature Management” Laboratory of the Institute of Geography under the Ministry of Science and Education of the Republic of Azerbaijan, participated in a broad public hearing on the Environmental Impact Assessment (EIA) documents for the Garadagh-Kharkhar mining operation project, as well as the Wet Tailings Storage Facility-2 and Heap Leach Pad-2 projects of the Demirli mine.

 The public hearing brought together representatives of government agencies, environmental scientists, experts in relevant fields, representatives of civil society organizations, and members of the local community. The main purpose of the event was to assess the potential environmental impacts of the projects, identify ecological risks, and present the measures planned to address them.

   During the meeting, a comprehensive presentation was delivered on the content of the EIA document for the Garadagh and Kharkhar mining projects, the results of the conducted studies, and the potential impacts of mining activities on ecosystems, soil and water resources, biodiversity, as well as the socio-economic environment.

   Sevil Guliyeva, representing the Institute of Geography, actively participated in the discussions and exchanged views on the environmental impacts of the projects, landscape conservation, and the sustainable use of natural resources.

  Questions raised by scientists and experts were addressed by the project implementers, who also noted that the comments and recommendations of the public would be taken into account in the final documents.
