Within the framework of WUF13 – the World Urban Forum, a round table titled “The Role of Environmental Awareness in Promoting Sustainable Lifestyles and Public Participation in Cities” was held on May 15, 2026, at the Ministry of Ecology and Natural Resources of the Republic of Azerbaijan.
Jamilya Ahmadova, a research fellow at the Institute of Geography of the Ministry of Science and Education of the Republic of Azerbaijan, also participated in the event. The main purpose of the round table was to discuss efforts aimed at developing environmental awareness in urban environments, increasing public participation, promoting sustainable lifestyles, and protecting the environment.
The event was attended by Deputy Minister of Ecology and Natural Resources Rauf Hajiyev, members of parliament, representatives of government institutions, scientists, and representatives of environmental organizations. The speakers emphasized the importance of maintaining ecological balance in cities, increasing green areas, ensuring proper waste management, and strengthening environmental knowledge within society.
Representatives of the Ministry of Ecology and Natural Resources, “Tamiz Shahar” OJSC, the Ecosphere Ecological-Social Center Public Union, and the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO) also delivered presentations during the event. The presentations provided detailed information on the impact of environmental education on public behavior, the implementation of sustainable development principles in cities, adaptation to climate change, and the importance of public awareness projects.
