Etibar Badalov, Head of the Department of Demography and Population Geography at the Institute of Geography of the MSE of Azerbaijan, presented a report "Characteristics of Sustainable Socioeconomic and Demographic Development of Azerbaijani Cities," at the scientific seminar held at Baku State University .
The event took place on the eve of the 13th session of the UN World Urban Forum (WUF13), which will be held in Baku in 2026 under the leadership of the Faculty of Geography at Baku State University and organized by the Student Youth Organization.
The demographer provided a scientific and theoretical explanation of the key factors determining the socioeconomic progress of cities and presented information on the demographic changes occurring in the country's urban space. During his presentation, he commented on urbanization trends, the environmental burden on the urban environment, and the problems posed by migration processes to urban infrastructure, based on specific facts and statistics.
Etibar Badalov noted that sustainable development is not limited to economic indicators alone, but is achieved in conjunction with improving social well-being, maintaining the ecological balance, and the principles of flexible urban management.
Questions posed to the speaker were answered, and prospects for the development of urban planning processes were discussed.
