An event dedicated to the 120th anniversary of the birth of Academician Yusif Mammadaliyev was held at the H. Aliyev Institute of Geography of the MSE Head of the Education Department, Doctor of Philosophy Museib Yunusov, who chaired the event, informed those present that today's event was being held in accordance with the Decree of President Ilham Aliyev "On the Celebration of the 120th Anniversary of Academician Yusif Mammadaliyev." He noted that our people should remember such outstanding and valuable scientists who have left their mark on science and brought glory to our country worldwide with their achievements, and serve as an example for future generations.

Nazim Gerayli, Chairman of the Institute's Council of Young Scientists and Specialists, delivered a report entitled "The Founder of Azerbaijani Petrochemistry: A Review of Yusif Mammadaliyev's 120-Year Scientific Legacy." Speaking about the scientist's life and work, the chairman noted that under the leadership of this outstanding scientist, who laid the foundations of petrochemistry in Azerbaijan, the scientific foundation of the country's chemical industry was strengthened, and new scientific institutes and laboratories were created. He also mentored some young researchers, many of whom later became renowned chemists.

N.Geraily also noted that Yusif Mammadaliyev's research at Azerbaijan's oil fields created an important database for the geochemistry and geography of oil. His chemical research became the basis for the geography of "Spatial Distribution and Use of Natural Resources".

The scientist's research enabled more efficient oil and gas processing and high-efficiency energy production. This is of great significance in terms of industrial geography and resource geography. After all, thanks to the technologies developed by Mammadaliyev, petrochemical centers such as Sumgait, Baku, and Garadagh emerged on the industrial map of Azerbaijan. Thus, his scientific legacy transformed the economic and geographical spatial structure of Azerbaijan.
