Geographers studied the tourism and recreational resources of Eastern Zangezur 2025-09-16 13:16:00 / IMPORTANT EVENTS

Employees of the Department of "Geography of Tourism and Recreational Geography" of the Institute of Geography named after acad. H. Aliyev of the AR MSE were on an expedition within the framework of the 1st State Program "Great Return", from August 14 to 24, in the territory of the liberated East Zangezur Economic Region of the Azerbaijan Republic.

The main objective of the expedition was to determine the tourism and recreational potential of the East Zangezur economic region. During the study, attractive tourist sites of the region and their importance for tourism development were studied. The healing springs of Gotursu, Badal, the Ohchu River, the Hakari River, the Imam Hussein Mosque of the 17th-18th centuries, the ancient hamam, which is a new archaeological site, the Zangilan Congress Center, the Aghali Hotel, the Dost Agropark and other tourist sites, as well as historical settlements and abandoned settlements were examined, and their role in sustainable tourism was determined.

It is planned to prepare a map of nature tourism based on the materials obtained during the study.
