After a long illness, leading researcher of the Department of Geography of Land Resources of Azerbaijan of the Institute of Geography named after Academician H. Aliyev of the MNOAR Tahira Salmanova has passed away.
Tahira Mammadpasha Salmanova was born in 1951 in Baku. After graduating from the Chemistry Department of BSU in 1976 with a degree in Chemistry, she entered the graduate school of the Institute of Geography of the Academy of Sciences of Azerbaijan in 1982. In 1990, under the supervision of Academician H.A. Aliyev, she defended her PhD thesis on the topic of "The Humus Content of Grape Soils in the South-Eastern Part of the Lesser Caucasus" and received the academic degree of Candidate of Agricultural Sciences.
Having started working at the Institute of Geography of the Academy of Sciences of Azerbaijan in 1972 as a senior laboratory assistant, T. Salmanova worked as an engineer, junior research fellow, research fellow, and since 1996 as a senior research fellow.
During her scientific activity, she determined the composition, reserves and changes of humus in soils under vineyards of low-mountain and mid-mountain zones of the south-eastern part of the Lesser Caucasus, the influence of mineral composition of fertilizers on soils under vineyards, the relationship between the amount of bases absorbed by nitrogen soils and grape yield. She was engaged in pedagogical activity for 12 years, about 40 scientific articles were published. She was also actively involved in public activities. She was vice-president of the Azerbaijan Cultural Association "Simurg", a member of the World Peace Federation under the UN, and an ambassador of peace. She worked as a member of the Women's Council of the Institute of Geography.
