The 65th anniversary of the head of the department of economic and political geography of the Institute of Geography named after academician H. Aliyev of the Ministry of Education of the Republic of Azerbaijan, Doctor of Geographical Sciences Nariman Pashayev was celebrated.

Acting Director General of the Institute of Geography, PhD in Geography, Associate Professor Zaur Imrani congratulated N. Pashayev on his anniversary and gave the participants brief information about his life and work. He noted that N. Pashayev, who graduated from the Geological and Geographical Faculty of the Azerbaijan State University in 1987 with a degree in Economic and Social Geography, began working as a senior laboratory assistant at the Institute of Geography of the Academy of Sciences of Azerbaijan in the same year. In 1995, he defended his PhD thesis on "Economic and Geographical Problems of the Impact of Natural Destructive Forces on the Economy of the Greater Caucasus Region of Azerbaijan" and received the degree of Candidate of Geographical Sciences. Since 2007, he has held the title of Associate Professor.

In 2017, N. Pashayev defended his doctoral dissertation on the topic "Economic and geographical problems of the impact of natural disasters on the economy of the Republic of Azerbaijan". Since 2000, he has been working as the head of the Department of "Economic and Political Geography of Azerbaijan" of the Institute of Geography. During his leadership of the department, 8 doctoral and about 50 candidate dissertations were defended and submitted to the Defense Council.

N.A. Pashayev's research work is mainly devoted to the impact of natural disasters on the economy and population distribution, the socio-economic development of regions, the study of important areas of political geography, economic and social geography, such as natural resources, industry, agriculture, tourism, transport and social infrastructure. He has published 200 scientific articles, 40 scientific and journalistic works, 10 monographs, 4 university textbooks and 23 programs on various issues of economic, social and political geography.

The chairman of the institute's trade union Kamran Ramazanly, acting head of the department, PhD Etibar Badalov, leading research fellow, PhD Ziyafet Agayev and others made speeches and told about the hero of the day, congratulated him on his 65th birthday, wished him good health and success in his future scientific work. The department staff congratulated Professor Nariman Pashayev and presented him with a gift they had prepared.
