On May 15 - International Climate Day, AzerTAC published a statement by Farida Talibova, junior researcher at the Institute of Geography named after Academician H.Aliyev of the MSEAR.
According to the specialist, observations and calculations show that the number of heat waves has increased compared to the baseline period. If during the baseline period the number of heat waves for different regions was 2-5 or 6-10, then since 1991 this number has increased several times. The increase in the number of heat waves in recent years is a clear example of climate change.Talibova reported that in general, cyclones from the north and northeast have a great influence on the formation of climatic conditions in Azerbaijan. Recent heavy rains in Baku are caused by microclimate of this region. In fact, floods and mudflows in Azerbaijan are typical for the spring and autumn seasons.
