The Central Scientific Library of ANAS hosted a round table on the topic “The power of knowledge for a Green World: The way to the future from books” to mark the results of the “Year of solidarity for a Green World”.
The event was attended by the head of the education department of the Institute of Geography acad. H.A. Aliyev MSE AR, PhD Museib Yunusov, management and employees of the Central Scientific Library.
The director of the Central Scientific Library, Doctor of Technical Sciences Huseyn Huseynov, reported that the library he heads has successfully joined the green movement, which is being carried out in libraries around the world in the field of ecology and environmental protection, and support for sustainable development.
The director spoke about numerous events, scientific and practical conferences, virtual and traditional exhibitions held by the library this year within the framework of the implementation of the decrees of the President of the country Ilham Aliyev and the decisions taken by the Presidium of ANAS. Among the works done, the director, who assessed the publication "Nature is a Book" and the bibliographic index "Ecology of Azerbaijan" published in the Central Scientific Library as an important contribution for researchers, also noted that a number of new projects planned in this area are being implemented.
Then, Associate Professor, PhD Museib Yunusov made an extensive report: “Will we be able to protect the green world?” The scientist spoke about the relevance of the “Green World”, “Green Economy”, “Green Energy”, “Green Zone”, “Green Transport” and scientific research conducted in this area. Emphasizing the potential of Karabakh's "green energy" resources, the speaker pointed to the environmental problems that arose during the occupation of the Karabakh and East Zangezur economic regions, the systematic destruction of forests, state reserves and wildlife sanctuaries, the damage caused to nature by the creation of new landforms and rock waste as a result of open-pit mining in the area. The scientist also noted the potential of using not only hydropower, but also the inexhaustible and renewable energy potential in the liberated regions.
Speaking at the event, Deputy Director of the Central Scientific Library for Library Services, Associate Professor Shahla Guliyeva, Deputy Director for Digitalization, Innovation and Electronic Services, Doctor of Philosophy in History Oruj Guliyev, Head of the Department of Innovative Projects and Methodological Support Sayyara Mammadova, Head of the Department of Azerbaijan Statehood and Heydar Aliyev Gunel Baghirova-Huseynova spoke about the increasing environmental threats due to the reduction of natural resources in the world and the impact of measures taken in the field of environmental sustainability on libraries.
They emphasized the sufficient potential of the country's libraries, including the Central Scientific Library, to transform into a green library and promote sensitivity to the environment.
In conclusion, the participants of the event viewed the exhibition of the same name, which continues throughout the year at the Central Scientific Library as part of the "Year of Solidarity for a Green World".
