Geographers took part in the preparatory event for EGEO 2023-10-18 15:03:00 / IMPORTANT EVENTS

On October 16, the opening ceremony of the project "Preparation for International Olympiads (iGeo and eGeo)" , winner of the VII grant competition on Innovations in Education" was held online format with the close cooperation of the Institute of Geography named after Academician H. Aliyev  and the Azerbaijan Geographical Society (AGS).

The event was attended by the General Director of the Institute of Geography, Professor Zakir Eminov, Executive Director, Associate Professor Zaur Imrani, a teacher at the Faculty of Geography of BSU, who collaborated on the project. Project manager Shekar Mamedova noted the participation in the event of students who won medals in eGeo and Republican Scientific Olympiads (RSO) in previous years.

Yashar Seyidaliyev, 5-time winner of the Innovations in Education Grant Competition, who opened the event with an opening speech, gave participants complete information about the grant competition, the iGeo-eGeo Olympiads and the project.

Speaking about the main issues of geography, topics used in the international program on geography, Prof. Z. Eminov spoke about the modern problems facing the countries of the world and the need to train high-quality personnel to solve them, and noted that highly qualified specialists play an invaluable role in the future development of the country. He noted the great role of the project in this direction and the constant support of this project from the AGS and the Institute of Geography.

In his speech, Associate Professor Z. Imrani spoke about preparations for participation in the 19th iGeo, which will be held in Indonesia this year, the selection of the jury and ensuring complete confidentiality in this work, adherence to the principles of transparency and fairness in the selection of the strongest teams to participate in the competition, and also noted the invaluable role of the Institute of Geography in the project.

BSU employee Sh. Mamedova noted in her speech that the younger generation is interested in geography and that it is a source of pride that talented pupils are trained in secondary schools.

It should be noted that 5 medals have already been brought to the country for the preparation of schoolchildren for the international Olympiads of Azerbaijan in geography and the organization of the national team at a high level by the project manager Yashar Seidaliyev. The country's public interest in international geography olympiads has increased. As a result, it is expected that geography will be included in the list of international Olympiads of the Ministry of Science and Education of the Republic of Azerbaijan.
