A joint meeting of the Academic Councils of the Department of Earth Sciences and the Institute of Geography of ANAS was held on the report on the scientific and scientific-organizational activities in 2021.

First of all, the participants honored with a minute of silence the memory of the employees of the institute who passed away this year - the former director, academician Ramiz Mammadov, doctor of geographical sciences Huseyn Khalilov, doctors of philosophy in geography Galib Rustamov, Elkhan Mammadbekov, Gasham Yagubov and Tapdig Osmanov.

Having announced the issue on the agenda, the chairman of the Scientific Council of the Geosciences Division, Academician Fakhraddin Gadirov gave the floor to the General Director of the Institute, Doctor of Geographical Sciences Zakir Eminov. The head of the Institute spoke about the work done by the employees of the Institute of Geography to implement the relevant decrees, resolutions and orders of the President of the Republic of Azerbaijan, the Cabinet of Ministers, and also reported on the implementation of decisions and measures taken by the Presidium of ANAS.

The General Director noted that this year's research is based on two problems - the study of the patterns of development of Azerbaijani nature, natural resources and their ecological and geographical features, economic, geographic and political problems of production, social infrastructure and territorial organization of Azerbaijan, population and a comprehensive study of the Caspian ecosystem...

In 2021, 2 journals, 10 monographs, 2 textbooks, 1 study guide and 12 subject programs, 116 articles (6 of which are indexed in the Web of Science, 3 in the Scopus scientific databases) and 4 dissertations were published the Institute of Geography.

Z. Eminov said that this year an employee of the institute was awarded the title of professor (late H. Khalilov). According to the results of the admission, 4 people were accepted for the preparation of the Doctor of Philosophy. In 2021, 7 people were accepted for Doctor of Philosophy and 1 person for Doctor of Science.

The head of the institute noted that there are problems in this area due to personnel problems (9 scientists died in 2020-2021). We need personnel with a scientific degree. Most PhDs are over 60 years old.

Then, Director of the Institute of Geology and Geophysics, Academicians Akif Alizade, Executive Director Dadash Huseynov, Head of Department Akpar Feyzullaev, Director of the Institute of Oil and Gas, Academician Fakhraddin Gadirov, employees of the Institute of Geography - Heads of Departments, Ph.D. Anvar Aliyev, Ph.D. Gabil Akhverdiev, Ph.D. Mahammad Abduyev spoke about the report.
