November 16, the staff of the Institute of Geography marked the 70th anniversary PhD Mahira Abbasova, leading employee of the Department of the History of geographical thought and toponymy, Honored Worker of Culture, member of the toponymic commission under the Milli Majlis (Parlement) of the Republic of Azerbaijan.

Talking about the life, scientific and social activities of M.Abbasova, the director of the Institute, Ramiz Mammadov, noted that about 50 years of her life she worked at the Institute of Geography. According to him, she is the most fruitful employee among woman in the field of toponymy.

Great is her merit in enriching the toponymic fund, its mapping, compiling a dictionary, teaching of this science and training personnel in this field.  

Deputy Director for science, PhD Maharram Hasanov, expressed his thoughts about Mahira Abbasova, describing her as a responsible and fruitful specialist with deep knowledge.

The participants of the event said many warm words about M.Abbasoca, noting her human qualities, modesty, and diligence.
