Based on the Decree of the President of the Republic of Azerbaijan “On Norms for Vibration and Noise Pollution that Have a Negative Impact on the Environment and Human Health”, as well as the World Health Organization’s warning that air pollution is one of the most serious environmental problems in Azerbaijan, employees of the Institute of Geography of the Ministry of Science and Education of the Republic of Azerbaijan conducted scientific research.
The head of the Institute’s “Geographical Ecology” Laboratory, Associate Professor, PhD in Agricultural Sciences A. Aliyev, together with laboratory staff members, PhD in Agricultural Sciences S. Novruzova, junior research fellow R. Huseynov, and laboratory assistant T. Fatullayeva, conducted field research from September 28 to October 2 within the framework of the report topic “The Eastern Part of the Southern Slope of the Greater Caucasus and Adjacent Areas (Shamakhi and Ismayilli Districts)”.
The main objectives of the research were to study the region’s ecogeographical conditions, assess vibration and noise pollution and factors affecting air quality, and map environmental risks.
During the expedition, field observations were conducted, and maps prepared using geoinformation technologies were verified and refined under field conditions. Soil and plant samples were collected in accordance with relevant methodologies to assess pollution levels.
The collected samples are currently being prepared for analysis according to various parameters. The research is ongoing under laboratory and office-based conditions.
