Employees of the Population Geography and Toponymy Laboratory of the Institute of Geography of the Ministry of Science and Education of the Republic of Azerbaijan, PhD in Geography, Associate Professor Etibar Badalov and PhD in Geography Sima Aliyeva, participated in an expedition to the Ganja–Dashkasan Economic Region from September 7 to 11.

The expedition covered the Dashkasan, Goygol and Samukh districts. Its main objective was to study the local characteristics and forms of urban and rural settlements and identify the trends occurring in these areas. The researchers also examined the current living conditions of the population, as well as demographic and employment issues from a socio-economic perspective.

As part of the expedition, the researchers studied the spatial distribution of settlements, population density and settlement patterns. Migration trends among the population, particularly migration from rural areas to district centers and major cities, were also analyzed. In addition, the employment structure of the population, major sources of income, and the role of agriculture and other economic activities in people's livelihoods were assessed.
