An event dedicated to the 33rd anniversary of 15 June – National Salvation Day was held at the Institute of Geography of the Ministry of Science and Education of the Republic of Azerbaijan. The event was attended by the institute’s leadership, scientists, and specialists. Opening the event with an introductory speech, the Acting Director of the Institute, Doctor of Geographical Sciences, Associate Professor Zaur Imrani stated that one of the most important historical events in the destiny of the Azerbaijani people is precisely 15 June - National Salvation Day. According to him, this date has been inscribed in our history in golden letters as the day when the foundation of the independent development path of Azerbaijan was laid and statehood was saved.
Speaking at the event, Member of the Milli Majlis (Parliament) Vugar Iskenderov emphasized that the establishment, strengthening, and rightful place of modern Azerbaijani statehood in the international arena are connected with the name of the National Leader Heydar Aliyev. The deputy noted that there are figures in history whose activity changes the fate of an entire nation and determines its future development path. The National Leader Heydar Aliyev was one such leader.
Vugar Iskenderov stated that in June 1993, the severe socio-political crisis in the country, the power vacuum, the threat of civil confrontation, and chaos posed a serious threat to Azerbaijan’s independence. At that time, when state institutions were paralyzed, Heydar Aliyev’s return to power at the request of the people marked the beginning of the country’s salvation. According to him, as a result of the far-sighted policy implemented by the Great Leader, stability was ensured in the country, the state-building process accelerated, and a solid foundation for Azerbaijan’s future development was created.
The deputy emphasized that the achievements of Azerbaijan today in political, economic, social, and cultural spheres are based on that very policy. He also noted that under the leadership of President Ilham Aliyev, the political course of the Great Leader is successfully continued, Azerbaijan has become one of the leading countries in the region, and its international prestige has further increased.
Later, legal expert and political analyst Polad Mehdiyev stated that 15 June is a turning point in the destiny of Azerbaijani statehood. He noted that Heydar Aliyev’s return to power created conditions for the restoration of stability in the country, the establishment of the rule of law, and the formation of a modern system of governance. Polad Mehdiyev emphasized that the Constitution adopted in 1995 played an important role in the country’s development as a key document defining the legal and ideological foundations of modern Azerbaijani statehood.
Speaking at the event, Head of the “Hydrology of Land” laboratory of the Institute of Geography, Doctor of Geographical Sciences Rza Mahmudov stated that one of the greatest services of Heydar Aliyev to our people was saving Azerbaijani statehood in a complex geopolitical environment and rescuing the country from the threat of fragmentation and loss of independence.
