International Cooperation and Current Environmental Issues Discussed at the Scientific Council Meeting of the Institute of Geography of the Ministry of Science and Education of Azerbaijan   2026-05-25 11:38:00 / SCIENTIFIC ASSEMBLIES

On May 21, the regular meeting of the Scientific Council was held at the Institute of Geography of the Ministry of Science and Education of the Republic of Azerbaijan. The meeting was chaired by Acting Director of the Institute, Doctor of Geographical Sciences, Associate Professor Zaur Imrani.

At the beginning of the meeting, the members of the Scientific Council were informed in detail about the issues on the agenda. First, the Scientific Secretary of the Institute, Saida Zeynalova, delivered a presentation on the participation of the      Institute’s employees in the 14th International Scientific-Practical Conference titled “Tourism and Recreation Complex in the Regional Development System,” held in Belgrade, the capital of Serbia. She noted that the presentations of the Azerbaijani representatives were met with great interest by the participants. Within the framework of the conference, the Serbian side proposed holding the next international conference dedicated to tourism in Baku.

Later, Zaur Imrani delivered a report on the participation of the Institute’s staff in the international conference organized in the city of Giessen, Germany. It was noted that extensive discussions were held on current issues in the field of tourism, and important exchanges of views took place regarding the expansion of international scientific cooperation.

During the meeting, the Head of the “Soil Ecology” Laboratory, Associate Professor Zaman Mammadov, presented a detailed report titled “The Consequences of Damage to Soil Resources Caused by Landslides and Rockfalls Related to Heavy Precipitation.” It was emphasized that such natural events lead to the erosion of fertile soil layers, intensification of erosion processes, and reduction of agricultural lands suitable for cultivation.

In addition, Emil Jabrayilov, PhD in Geography and researcher at the “Tourism and Recreation Geography” Laboratory, delivered a presentation on the participation of the Institute’s employees in the Urbanization Forum.

Organizational issues were also discussed during the meeting. Due to the passing of P.B. Zamanov, the scientific supervisor of Aynura Ahmadova, leading engineer of the “Climatology” Laboratory, the issue of appointing a new scientific supervisor was considered. By the decision of the Scientific Council, Doctor of Agricultural Sciences, Professor Nizami Seyidbeyli, was appointed as the new scientific supervisor of Aynura Ahmadova.
