The opening ceremony of a chess tournament dedicated to the 103rd anniversary of the birth of National Leader Heydər Əliyev was held at the Institute of Geography of ANAS. At the beginning of the event, the memory of the National Leader was honored with a one-minute silence.

The event was opened with an introductory speech by Acting Director of the Institute of Geography, Doctor of Geographical Sciences, Associate Professor Zaur İmrani. He emphasized that such events, which have already become a tradition, are organized annually on the eve of the National Leader’s commemoration day and cover various types of sports. He noted that the main purpose of these events is to promote a healthy lifestyle among employees and strengthen team spirit. He also highlighted that chess, as an intellectual game, contributes to the development of participants’ strategic thinking skills.

Then, Chairman of the Institute’s Trade Union Organization Kamran Ramazanlı delivered a speech, providing detailed information about the rules of the tournament and noting the high level of preparedness of the participants. He stated that the competition will be held in the spirit of friendship and fair play.

Information about the participants was also provided, noting that employees representing various departments and divisions of the Institute are taking part in the tournament. The participants will compete in two groups. It was noted that the winners will be awarded at the end of the tournament.
