Oceanologist took part in the meeting of the Caspian Working Group 2025-05-27 13:48:00 / IMPORTANT EVENTS

Doctor of Geographical Sciences, Professor Amir Aliyev, Head of the Department of Geomorphology of the Coast and Bottom of the Caspian Sea of the Institute of Geography named after Acad. H.Aliyev of the MSEAR, was on a business trip to St. Petersburg, Russian Federation.

The professor, as part of the working group, participated in a meeting of the Russian-Azerbaijani working group on the issues of "Shallowing of the Caspian Sea". The meeting discussed fluctuations in the level of the Caspian Sea, in particular its shallowing by 230 cm over the past 25 years, and the problems arising as a result of this process.

At the meeting, organized in accordance with the agreement reached at the meeting of the Minister of Natural Resources of the RF and the Minister of Ecology and Natural Resources of the Republic of Azerbaijan held in Baku in December 2024, the parties discussed the draft of a joint Program for reducing the level of the Caspian Sea, mechanisms for its implementation, as well as an action program for subsequent stages.

Following the meeting, the authorized representatives of the countries signed the Protocol of the Working Group.
