The monograph “Object-oriented analysis for assessing risks and natural disasters: geo-ecological contexts of Azerbaijan” has been published, written by Associate Professor Zaur Imrani, Executive Director of the Institute of Geography named after academician H. Aliyev of the Ministry of Science and Education of Azerbaijan, in collaboration with Professor Alekper Rasuli, a researcher at Macquarie University in Australia.

The book presents a collection of practical textbooks on OBIA (Object-Oriented Image Analysis), shedding light on the issues of geo-environmental risk and natural disasters in the Republic of Azerbaijan, as well as methods of their application. To understand the context of OBIA, trial versions of eCognition are used, and each resource explains the workflow in detail, which is extremely important for every practitioner. There is also the opportunity to get acquainted with a huge panel of tools and their functions related to Landsat, Sentinel imagery and ALOS-Palsar data adapted to the geography of Azerbaijan.

Although the approaches are varied, the monograph outlines a range of skills and knowledge required by professionals to use aerospace data, including satellite image analysis and mapping.
