December 12, in connection with the 110th anniversary of acad. H. Aliyev, Council of Young Scientists and Specialists of the Institute of Geography named after acad. H. Aliyev of ANAS held a workshop for schoolchildren and teachers of secondary schools No.78 of Baku, under the slogan “We learn Azerbaijan” on the topic: “Application of GIS in the teaching of geography in secondary schools”.

First of all, the schoolchildren saw the exhibition of ANAS concerning research activities of the Institute of Geography.

Employees of the department “Geoinformatics and cartography” talked about geographic information systems and their application. They also explained how to draw and print a 3D map using modern technology.

The workshop continued its work in the conference hall of the IG. Samira Alekperova, chairwoman of the Council of Young Scientists and Specialists of the Institute of Geography, named after acad. H.Aliyev of ANAS, told about the importance of increasing interest in all sciences, including geography.

Deputy Director for science of the IG, PhD Maharram Hasanov, thanked the members of the Council and its chairwoman for organizing the cycle of workshops for schoolchildren, noting their role in the future choice of profession. He said that the grant project of Samir Velizade, employee of the IG,  untitled “Application of GIS in the teaching of geography in secondary schools”and selected by the Ministry of Education of the Republic of Azerbaijan, is carried out in Baku school No. 78.

The researcher of the Institute, Samira Abusheva, made a presentation: “Relief forms, interesting from the point of view of tourism”. She gave extensive information about the natural monuments of Azerbaijan and the importance of medical sources.

The director of the school thanked the leadership of the institute and the Council of Young Scientists and Specialists for organizing this event. He noted that the regular holding of such events will play a huge role in shaping the world outlook of schoolchildren and increase their interest in science.

At the end of the event, the monographs of academicians H.Aliyev and B. Budagov and many other books were given to the school on behalf of leadership of the Institute.
